World Cup: England play Senegal in the round of 16

England will meet Senegal in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.

This is the tournament’s first confirmed knockout match in Qatar.

The Teranga Lions advanced thanks to a 2-1 win over Ecuador in the first group of matches played on Tuesday.

The penalty kick taken by Ismail Sarr gave Senegal the lead, before Moises Caicedo equalized for the South Americans.

Then captain Kalidou Coulibaly’s shot sealed the win.

The Three Lions qualified after beating Wales 3-0 in a late-start match.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford scored twice either side of a Phil Foden goal to give Gareth Southgate’s men the win.

England have never lost to an African team in the World Cup, winning 14 times and drawing six of their matches.
