World Cup: Ghana coach, Addo slams Ronaldo’s penalty decision after defeat to Portugal

Ghana coach Otto Addo has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty decision following his team’s 3-2 World Cup defeat by Portugal on Thursday.

Ronaldo was dropped by defender Mohamed Salisu in the second half during the match.

The former Manchester United striker then stepped up to score the penalty.

Speaking after the match, Addo criticized American referee Ismail El-Fateh for his decision to award Portugal the penalty kick.

“The referee gave a penalty kick that wasn’t a penalty kick – everyone saw that. Why? Because he’s Ronaldo or something?” Addo told beIN Sport.

“I think you have to ask the referee. I have no evidence for that,” Addo added in his post-match press conference when asked if he thought the foul was made because it was Ronaldo.

“I don’t know if they didn’t pay or if the VAR didn’t pay attention.

“If you look at the replay, we played the ball, it was actually a foul against us.

“If someone scores a goal, congratulations. But this was really a gift.”

“Until the penalty kick, anything was possible. Then the game got a little wild.”

Ghana’s next match is against South Korea on Monday.
