Manchester United legend Roy Keane has denied claims that Portugal are better off without captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kane said this while defending Ronaldo amid the heavy criticism the former Manchester United striker has faced in the past few days.
It is noteworthy that Ronaldo was criticized after being placed on the bench in Portugal’s 6-1 victory over Switzerland in the round of 16 of the World Cup a few days ago.
Ronaldo’s former teammate, Gary Neville, also suggested that Portugal would be better off without the 37-year-old.
Speaking of the development, Kane condemned the notion that Portugal are better without Ronaldo, insisting he hates this nonsense.
“When a team does well without Ronaldo, (it’s a case of) ‘we’re better off without Ronaldo’… I hate that nonsense.
“Juventus haven’t done anything since he left two years ago, it’s been a shame,” Keane said (via Extra.ie).
