Former international player Austin Jay Jay Okocha praised the Atlas Lions of Morocco after the North American team beat Spain 3-0 on penalties to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
This was the first time that Morocco reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
It was goalless after 120 minutes of football with a penalty shootout required to decide the match.
“They did a very good job. They deserved (the win) too… it takes a lot of guts… it takes a lot to defend for more than 120 minutes without losing focus, without losing focus,” Okocha said at SuperSport.
Okocha also singled out Spain-based Moroccan goalkeeper Yacine Bounou, who beat off the blows to win the match.
“From the guard’s body language, he’s confident in himself, he’s very confident. He trusts in his ability.
