Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of the Argentine national team, called captain Lionel Messi “the greatest player of all time.”
Scaloni said this after Messi led Argentina to victory over the Netherlands on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the World Cup quarter-final match on Saturday night.
It is noteworthy that Messi scored a goal during the match, as Argentina beat the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Scaloni said after the match (via UK Sports Mole): “Today Leo (Lionel Messi) showed he’s the best ever.”
He added, “This team has the spirit that enables it to face the situation at all times. From my point of view, we didn’t deserve to go to penalties, but despite that, the team continued to show its face.
“The game was under control, but football has that, even when you think it’s all over. This team has youth and pride. It’s essential that you never give up.”
Argentina will now face Croatia in the World Cup semi-final match on Tuesday.
