World Cup: Messi said he would be elected the next president of Argentina on one condition

The former Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, has insisted that captain Lionel Messi will be elected president if he takes over the Argentina national team to win this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina has already reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Lionel Scaloni’s side defeated Australia 2-1 in the last 16 to book their place in the last eight.

Messi has emerged as Argentina’s best player, scoring three goals and recording one assist so far, and Macri believes the Paris Saint-Germain forward will be elected Argentina’s next president if he succeeds in his endeavours.

“We all choose him [Messi] As president, yes (laughs). The most important thing is for the team to enjoy themselves, the weather is good and that’s up to Scaloni,” Macri told Marca.

“The coaching staff are healthy people. The spectacle of the World Cup is Argentina fans.”

He added, “Leo Messi, not only is he the best in the world, but 80% of the people in Doha want Messi to be the world champion.”
