On Thursday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation announced the appointment of Luis de la Fuente to succeed Luis Enrique as coach of Spain.
The European Football Association had announced earlier that Enrique would not continue in his position after Morocco’s exit from the 2022 World Cup against Morocco in the round of 16.
A separate statement then confirmed that Under-21 coach De la Fuente would replace the former Barcelona coach.
Remember, Enrique took over in 2018 after Julen Lopetegui left for Real Madrid.
The 52-year-old led Spain to the semi-finals at Euro 2020, losing out to eventual winners Italy.
With his contract expiring this month, the Russian Football Union said the decision had been made to start a new project with de la Fuente in charge.
De la Fuente has been coaching Spain’s youth teams since 2013.
The 61-year-old worked with the U19 team before taking over as U21 in 2018.
