World Cup: Onana breaks silence after Song kicked him out of Cameroon’s squad

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has finally broken his silence after being expelled from his World Cup squad.

Onana insisted there was “no will” from his coach Rigobert Song to resolve the situation.

The 26-year-old revealed this in a lengthy statement posted to his Instagram account on Tuesday.

Song had a falling out with Onana before Cameroon’s 3-3 World Cup draw with Serbia prompted the Inter Milan goalkeeper to return home and leave Qatar.

Cameroon’s top seed Onana was surprisingly not included in the squad against Serbia, being replaced in the starting lineup by Davies Ibasi.

Song opened the door to a possible return after that, while Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o was thought to be a peacemaker, but Onana insisted he was unable to work out his differences with the manager.

Onana’s statement read in part: “Yesterday I was not allowed to be on the ground to help Cameroon, as I always do, to achieve the team’s goals.”

“You have always acted in a way to lead the team to success in a good way.

“I put all my efforts and energies into finding solutions to the situation that a footballer often goes through, but there was no will from the other side.

“Some moments are difficult to comprehend. However, I always respect and support the decisions of the people responsible for pursuing the success of our team and our country.”
