World Cup: Saka puts you under pressure – Rooney warns Chelsea striker

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has hailed Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka as the best player ahead of the 2022 World Cup in England.

Rooney also warned Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling that Saka could keep him out of the England squad, adding that the Arsenal star is putting him under pressure.

Saka and Sterling appear to be vying for the same spot in England manager Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up.

Saka helped Arsenal move five points to the top of the Premier League table, scored four goals and scored six assists in 14 matches,

On the other hand, Sterling suffered greatly after his £50m move to Chelsea from Manchester City last summer.

However, despite Sterling’s struggles this season, Rooney says it will be difficult for Southgate to leave him out of the World Cup starting line-up, and insists no one can complain if he starts England’s first game against Iran next week.

“Right, it’s tough,” Rooney told The Times. “For England, Sterling has been very good and Saka is a great player, so I will play either of them on the right.

“I played many matches with Sterling and he has improved a lot. Working with Pep Guardiola at City has improved him tactically.

“As shown in the previous two tournaments, it is [Sterling] He could be a decisive player for England.

“Saka is putting Sterling under pressure, though. He plays fearlessly and we’ve been talking about players not in club shape, but he’s the opposite: he’s been in great shape with Arsenal.

“They are great options for Gareth [Southgate] I think in different matches he will change his team. I don’t think anyone can complain which one is chosen.”
