Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has named club legend Zinedine Zidane as the best coach to replace Didier Deschamps as France coach in 2023.
Deschamps’ men lost 4-2 on penalties to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday in Qatar.
The World Cup final ended in a 3-3 draw with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick, Lionel Messi scoring twice, and Angel Di Maria also scoring a goal.
Deschamps’ current contract with Les Bleus runs until the end of 2024, but speculation will continue as to whether or not the 54-year-old will step down from the job.
Asked if he thinks Zidane is the ideal candidate to take over from Deschamps, Kroos said, as quoted by Diario AS, “I certainly think Zizou will not only be a good successor, but the best possible successor.
The big question is – what does Deschamps want? I think there is a 70/30 chance of Zizou becoming the new coach.
“I think Zizou really wants to get back into team training.”
