Louise van Gaal, coach of the Netherlands, revealed the shortcomings of Lionel Messi, which the Netherlands will take advantage of to beat Argentina in the quarter-final match of the FIFA World Cup on Friday.
The Dutch national team will face the South American giants in the quarter-finals on Friday, after the two teams succeeded in the round of sixteen.
Van Gaal said Messi’s lack of off-the-ball action could be something the Dutch will target.
“Messi is the most creative player, he can create a lot and score goals himself,” he told ESPN.
“But when they lose the ball and the opposition has the ball, they don’t participate much, and that gives us chances [to exploit]. “
Messi scored the first goal as Argentina beat Australia 2-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup where they face a challenge by beating Van Gaal’s men.
