World Cup: You don’t know Messi – Fabregas responds to Canelo Alvarez

Former Spanish international Cesc Fabregas has criticized boxing star Canelo Alvarez for threatening to hit Lionel Messi.

Alvarez had criticized Messi and accused the Argentina captain of disrespecting Mexico after their World Cup match on Sunday.

Argentina had defeated Mexico 2-0 in a decisive Group C match at the 2022 World Cup, and the middleweight boxing champion claimed that the Paris Saint-Germain superstar put Mexico’s flag down and wiped the floor with it.

However, clearer footage showed Messi was simply taking off his shoes after the match with the Mexican flag on the ground.

Canelo said Messi should avoid contact with him in public, but Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Fabregas has now defended the Argentina captain.

“You don’t know the person, you don’t understand how the dressing room works or what happens after the match,” Fabregas wrote on Twitter.

And Fabregas, the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona star, continued that players put all their shirts on the floor after matches and that shirts are usually picked up to be washed afterwards.

Messi and his team mates will now hope to beat Robert Lewandowski’s Poland team in their next match to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
