Yobe govt deploys 2,670 staff to combat climate change

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Boni has approved the secondment and deployment of 2,670 staff to the Ministry of the Environment to serve as coordinators and supervisors on the Climate Change Adaptation Project.

The approval was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Assistant to the Governor of Pune, Maman Mohamed, stating that the staff were drawn from 17 local government areas of the state.

In the statement, the State Commissioner for the Environment, Sir Jacob Karasuwa, explained that 15 coordinators and supervisors will work in each of the 178 departments of the state to carry out various activities to check the challenges of climate change.

Karasua further explained that the extensive deployment of staff to work under the project was in order to effectively check the threat of climate change in the state.

“We are determined to face the danger to promote agriculture and ensure food safety and security,” he said.

Karasua said social organizations will be encouraged to participate and take ownership of the project.
