Yobe University Arizona State University in protest of non-payment of salaries

Members of the Faculty Members Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Gashu’a, Yobe State Branch, on Tuesday organized a peaceful protest over unpaid salaries.

The head of the branch, Dr. Milemi Abacha, said the protest was against the mistreatment of lecturers through what he called “the weaponization of hunger and the intimidation of court order.”

Abacha stressed that instead of addressing the basic demands presented by the federation, the federal government, through its apparatus, resorted to extortion and intimidation, adding that such strange behavior is to harm academics by paying October salaries proportionately.

While urging the Federal Government to honor their agreement and pay all salaries withheld, the ASUU President asserted that the Federation refused to humiliate academics in Nigerian universities.

Union members were seen in their numbers carrying banners with various inscriptions and walking around the university campus.
